Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about narrow band green light, MiOptics glasses, the science and technology, and how nbGL filters work.

MiOptics are patented therapeutic lenses that filter a very specific wavelength of green light from full spectrum (normal lighting conditions) to support brain and nervous system health. They help reduce symptoms of headaches, migraines, stress and anxiety.

MiOptics lenses use color filtration technology to remove targeted light frequencies that may trigger neurological symptoms like migraines, motion sickness, anxiety, pain and light sensitivity. The specially patented lenses help calm the visual system and reduce or relieve symptoms.

Research* indicates that filtering certain bands of light may be beneficial in reducing migraines, anxiety and sleep disruption. We utilize filtration of those bands while allowing a narrow band of light through which still allows you to see very clearly.

MiOptics lenses offer a soothing, narrow band of natural light that is designed to let you see and function without discomfort from everyday light.

MiOptics can be incorporated into a plan for better health and has been shown to help with the pain associated with photosensitivity and digital eyestrain, while improving general well-being. MiOptics is designed to provide soothing green light comfort and may help those living with migraines, anxiety and sleep disruption.

MiOptics are also designed to block 95% of blue light, and may help those living with sleep disruption, exposure to excessive screen time and gaming, and rest and sleep issues.

MiOptics go beyond blue light blocking by filtering a broader range of light wavelengths that can cause neurological stress. They are designed for therapeutic use, not just screen comfort.

The Sport Plus builds on the features of the Sport model and adds magnetic lens attachments, allowing you to instantly swap between different lens types for adaptability.

MiOptics Precise uses high-temperature treated glass to deliver the highest-level of narrow band light transmissivity with superb optical clarity. This allows people with light sensitivity to function normally in a darkened indoor environment and perform activities like reading or using a computer.

MiOptics Precise is developed specifically to be used indoors, especially with low light environments, and may not be suitable for outdoor use.

MiOptics Pro and MiOptics Lab have a lower light transmissivity level which make them suitable for both indoor and outdoor conditions. MiOptics Clip enables the user to customize one of four changeable lenses to suit the environment.

MiOptics should not be used while driving, biking or when participating in activities where vision with the full spectrum of light, particularly red, is needed to see red lights, stop signs and other hazard warnings. MiOptics should not be worn when operating machinery.

MiClips' easily interchangable lenses make it possible to use while driving if the nbGL lens is not attached.

You can wear MiOptics for as long as needed to relieve symptoms and in the hours before sleep to induce better rest.

The recommended wear time varies by individual. Some users wear them throughout the day, while others use them during symptom flare-ups or high-trigger situations like screen use, while traveling or fluorescent lighting exposure.

MiOptics lenses are noninvasive and drug free, with no known side effects. Some users may need a short adjustment period as their brain adapts to the filtered light environment.

Clean your MiOptics lenses with the included microfiber cleaning cloth.

You can clean the frame with a damp cloth, but we recommend you do not run the frame under the faucet or submerge it in water.

MiOptics are ideal for people who suffer from migraines, headaches, anxiety, motion sickness, light sensitivity, post-concussion syndrome, traumatic brain injury (TBI), sleep issues and problems focusing. They are safe for all ages and have no side effects.

Note: Category 4 lenses are not suitable for driving, cycling or operating machinery.

Comparing the MiOptics Lenses to other lenses

The science behind narrow band green light (nbGL) was pioneered by Harvard’s world-renowned neurologist Rami Burstein, PhD, Professor of Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School, and currently the president of the International Headache Society.

Numerous peer-reviewed studies have been published in the medical literature that cite the benefit of nbGL for various conditions.

Visit our Science page for more information.

Narrow band green light (nbGL) refers to a specific wavelength range of green light. Unlike broad-spectrum light, nbGL targets precise neural pathways associated with pain, mood and sleep regulation. Research suggests it may help reduce anxiety, improve sleep and support overall well-being.

nbGL

The colors in full spectrum light create micro-electrical signals (neurostimulation) in the eyes and brain that can trigger a variety of symptoms. Research shows that only a very narrow band of green light can reduce triggers in the brain that cause pain and disruption to daily activities. Reducing symptoms and managing pain help people return to normal function and improve their quality of life.
