A systematic review published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine examined the effects of light therapy on individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The analysis included multiple studies and found that light therapy was associated with significant improvements in PTSD symptom severity. Additionally, participants who received light therapy demonstrated better retention of extinction learning, a process crucial for reducing fear responses associated with traumatic memories. These findings suggest that light therapy could be a promising, noninvasive treatment option for alleviating PTSD symptoms.

“The scariest situation for me was going from light to dark because, suddenly, I didn’t know if someone was in that room. I couldn’t see anything. I had to get my sunglasses off as quick as possible. Hopefully my eyes would adjust quickly. That could be the moment between life and death.”
